Potatoe class at Hovander Homestead Park

I found online about an event at this park that would teach kids how to plant potatoes in garbabe cans.  Since we'd just recently planted our own garden, I thought it would be fun to go see this demonstration.  There was also a story time in the garden.  Just the two of us went and we had a great time exploring this new (to us) park.  As it turned out, we were the only ones to show up for the event and we got one on one potatoe lessons and story time.  It was great fun and Chloe was a ham!  \

Bellingham Pride 2010

We went to the Bellingham Pride Festival and Parade this summer with Shana, Andrew Keiani and Giada.  We all had a great time.  Keiani had a good dance along with one of the drag Queens.  She was an instant hit.  Chloe loved playing with her flag.  A nice woman had given one to Keiani and her during the day.  Chloe still keeps her flag in her room.  Later Shana told me a story about Keiani.  She had asked Keinai what the pride festival was about and Keiani said it was about everyone being able to love everyone.  Abby and I felt very supported and it was a good day.

Lots of time with Grandma!

Chloe loves her grandma!  They got to spend a lot of time together this summer!  My green hanging chair has been a mainstay on our back patio for most of the summer and they play on it all the time!

Photo Shoot!

Chloe occasionally gets some handed down clothes from a little girl  through someone at my work.  She loves getting bags full of surprise clothes that all fit her.  She likes to talk about how and when the other little girl wore the clothes.  When she gets handed down clothes are the only times I've seen her get excited about trying stuff on.  She likes to go through them and put them in piles of like clothing and then she always asks me if she can put on her favorite one and "wear it around for a while".
This happened the other day and we went outside.  It was beautiful light and she was totally on!  All her pretty pozes and the cute outfit made some awesome pictures that show just how beautiful and fun 5-year-old-Chloe is!

Our summer in a nut-shell.

Chloe loves watermelon.  She had plenty of meals this summer eating nearly exclusively watermelon.  It's a tiny bit surprising considering the fact that watermelon is usually pretty messy.  She manages very well, though.  We spent a lot of days this summer going to small events around bellingham.  We've been to fairhaven village green, for community events, and we've been to the farmers markets a few times.  We've been to hear the concerts in Elizabeth park and have spent many days trecking from one park to another.  We like to go on adventures together and make up characters to come with us throughout the day.  She really loves to climb rocks, tree roots, and "hike".

We especially like to find huckleberries and other berries along the trails to eat.  Sometimes we "share" with our accompanying dinosaurs, but mostly we jsut gobble them up ourselves.
A few times we've had the lovely company of Shana and Keiani and Giada.  Chloe and Keiani love to run-run-run together.
My mom came on some adventures with us, too.  She let Chloe borrow her visor.  I love her little berry-stained lips. Mom never missed a soccer game or practice, and always loved to come with us for the day.

We went to a couple of restraunts and got some junk food together and Chloe is always up for a birthday party - especially if there is a pinata!  She just crashed a birthday party the other day that was as the apartment clubhouse!!  She got cake and ice cream and the whole bit!

Some days were too rainy to go outside all day.  thats how I got these pictures of Chloe turning herself into a walrus at the mall, and playing "Don't Smile" with Abby in our living room.

Here it is September, and I'm lookin at cooler days, more rain and Kindergarten starting on the 13th!  It's been a super fun summer in Bellingham.  I'm looking forward to all the fall family activities again!

Soccer - Summer 2010

This is what Chloe looked like on the field the day I turned in to a bonafide "Soccer Mom".  She was with Abby and My mom that day.  I was so sad to miss her last day of pre-school AND her first day of Soccer.  (I had to travel for work - the up-side was that I was in San Diego ) She spent nearly the whole time at practice picking at something on her hand.

After she picked a hole in her skin she needed a band-aid and spent nearly the rest of practice holding her hand palm-side-up.  She did have a good time, though.  Her best friend Lily was on the same team.

As time went on, we were not so sure how much Chloe actually liked soccer.  She always looked forward to go to soccer, and said she liked the practices better than the games.  During scrimmages and games she mostly sat down on the field and said she was too tired to play.  I mostly translated that to bored.  One game in particular her coach finally asked her if she'd rather play goalie so she didnt have to run as much.  She liked that idea and headed down the field.  While everyone else was watching the game on the other end of the field, she began inching the goal cones closer and closer to her, there-by making the goal smaller AND her job easier.  Clever kid. All the parents were chuckling at the sight of her at the end of the field proudly standing with two cones directly on either sides of her feet.  Of corse she put them back after we asked her to.  She still says she is interested in soccer though, so we'll probally give it another try and hope for a new - more engagaing coach next time.

This was her first "throw in".  It seemed like she was always more interested in playing at the nearby park after the games than she was in the actual game.  She eneded the (mid july) season feeling good about it and asking for her next "classes" to be in swimming and ballet.

There are no bathrooms at the park where soccer was.  So this will do.
